Chronic Kidney Disease Awareness Event

Ugotis [You Got This] is an event being hosted to raise awareness for Chronic Kidney Disease. It will also be a place for people to talk to one another about their experiences and perhaps gain some support and guidance in their own CKD journey.

There will be talks and presentations from charities such as Kidney Care UK and Rays of Sunshine.

There will be items for sale with all proceeds going to charity. Only cash will be accepted.

I hope to see you there.

ABOUT THE HOST

Final Year University Student who sufferers from Chronic Kidney Disease

Hi. I'm Rachel and I am a lover of books, stationery, and Disney. I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease when I was 7 years old. I was in End Stage Renal Failure during the end of my GCSE's and my two-year college course. After finishing my BTEC in Media [Film & TV] I had to take a "gap year" due to my deteriorating health. In 2015 my kidney function had reached 6% and I needed a transplant. As I'm sure many parents do, both my mum and dad got tested to see if they were a match. Luckily for me, they both had suitable kidney's for me. In the end, my dad donated due to him having a kidney age of 25 years old, allowing his kidney to hopefully last longer for me.

Since my transplant, I've had ups and downs as many CKD sufferers do. In 2016 I decided to restart my education and I started studying a BA in Graphic Design and Visual Communication. 3 years later I'm about to graduate and for my final major project, I have decided to host an event to raise awareness for CKD in Young Adults. I'm hoping it can also be a time of support and empowerment.

YOU GOT THIS

During my time at university, I have had the opportunity to create a book about my CKD journey. These books will be available to flick through, as well as purchase, with all proceeds going to charity.
